Man charged with bludgeoning girlfriend to death in Coconut Creek, cops say

A 23-year-old man is charged in the beating death of his 22-year-old girlfriend in Coconut Creek, police said.

Sanjay Johnson called 911 early Friday about 1:40 a.m. and told dispatchers that his girlfriend Tiffonia Davids was not breathing after passing out and hitting her head, said Coconut Creek Police spokesman Scott Slavin.

Officers and fire-rescue workers responded to the 4000 block of West Atlantic Boulevard and tried to revive Davids while taking her to Northwest Medical Center. She was pronounced dead at 2:49 a.m., Slavin said.

Detectives determined Davids suffered multiple injuries from blunt force trauma, and discovered a baseball bat at the scene that is believed to have been used as a weapon, Slavin said.

Johnson is charged with second-degree murder and has been booked into the Broward County Jail with no bond pending first appearance.
