After debating Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump weight-shames Miss Universe and heads to Florida

Donald Trump followed up a Monday night debate in which Hillary Clinton repeatedly put him on the defensive by blasting former Miss Universe Alicia Machado this morning for gaining “a massive amount of weight” after winning her crown in 1996.

Trump is scheduled to spend today in crucial Florida. He’s got a fundraiser and an Hispanic outreach meeting in Miami, a fundraiser in Longwood and a rally tonight on the Space Coast in Melbourne.

Clinton brought up Machado during the debate to criticize Trump’s treatment of women.

“And one of the worst things he said was about a woman in a beauty contest. He loves beauty contests, supporting them and hanging around them. And he called this woman Miss Piggy. Then he called her Miss Housekeeping, because she was Latina. Donald, she has a name,” Clinton said.

“Where did you find this? Where did you find this?” Trump said.

“Her name is Alicia Machado and she has become a U.S. citizen,” Clinton said. “And you can bet she’s going to vote this November.”

The Clinton campaign followed up by releasing a video of Machado telling her story.

Trump called in to Fox and Friends this morning and admitted Clinton got under his skin “at the end maybe,” when she brought up Machado.

“She was the worst we ever had. The worst. The absolute worst. She was impossible,” Trump said.

“She was the winner and she gained a massive amount of weight and it was a real problem. We had a real problem. Not only that — her attitude. We had a real problem with her. So Hillary went back into the years and…found the girl and talked about her like she was Mother Teresa and it wasn’t quite that way,” Trump said.
